1880’s to 1890’s
It was a time of excess and eclecticism, giving rise to a style commonly referred to as the ‘architecture of abundance’ with interiors lavishly decorated to match. As Queen Victoria presided over the English throne during the last two decades of the 19th century, the Australian colonies were experiencing a season of unprecedented affluence, of success and wealth.
